The Vikings and the Viking age playes an domination part of the Danish self perception. No historical person has ever been given a bigger value as symbol and no period of history has ever been so influenced so much by our own modern historical perception.
The Vikings are known and feared all over the world and have an almost mythical rumour created by various historical sources throughout time.
But a spectacular happening like the Sea Stallions journey from Roskilde to Dublin also offers an insight into how people today understand and perceive the Viking and the Viking age.
The understanding of the Viking and the Viking age, which is dominating our shared perception dates back to the 19th century. But our perception is also very dependent on how old we are, what we learned in school and where we live. For a long time the Viking has been known as a longhaired and strong man with a horned helmet - but is that image of the Scandinavian still dominating?
The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde would like to use the Sea Stallion journey to Dublin to examine the modern image of the Vikings and the way the Viking age is perceived today. We therefore have five main research questions and invite you to take part in our reseach.
By answering the following questionnaire, your answers will be part of our data for the reseach.
Thank you for your interest.
