Workshop in Viking Boatbuilding
How did the Vikings build their boats? That question is at the heart of the Viking Ship Museum’s work, and in 2017 you have a chance to get slightly closer to an answer. The Viking Ship Museum’s boatyard will be hosting weekend workshops in Viking Age boatbuilding.
200 year-old-oak to be cleaved at the Viking Ship Museum.
The massive 8 meter long oak log, with a weight of around 8 tons, will be cleaved with mallets, wedges and raw muscle power!

Two 200-year-old oak logs – one of which weighs over 6 tons – will arrive at the Viking Ship Museum’s boatyard on Friday 1st September.
