Dizzying arcs, fancy libraries, lengthy passageways of pillars, dim reading rooms, well groomed lawns.
Trinity College in the heart of Dublin has it all. And then some.
Usually home of the learned, but in the summer of 2007 the university campus may be visited by clients of a different nature: the crew of the Sea Stallion from Glendalough.
In any case the Irish Ministry of Culture is at the moment planning to provide lodgings for the crew at Trinity College.
The Vikings founded Dublin
Trinity College is the oldest university in Ireland, founded back in 1592. Today it has roughly 12,000 student and 1,200 staff members.
Additionally Trinity College is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Ireland with more than 500,000 visitors every year.
“The Irish Ministry of Culture hopes to able to let the crew stay at the dormitory, which is situated on university campus. The final arrangements are not yet in place, but if everything comes together, the crew will be staying in one of Dublin’s most historic places. It was in this area that Danish and Norwegian Vikings founded Dublin 1,200 years ago,“ Preben Rather Sørensen, head of secretariat at the Viking Ship Museum, explains.
Accommodation at university campus will be good and simple in double rooms. Enough to make any crewmember light-headed after seven weeks and 1,700 kilometres from Roskilde to Dublin; under open sky; in constant company of 64 others.
