Vikings and World Heritage

- A special offer for groups

Two world-famous attractions and the taste of New Nordic  Viking Food awaits you in the ancient town of Roskilde.

Roskilde, one of Denmark’s oldest cities, was founded by the Vikings more than 1000 years ago. In the Middle Ages Roskilde was one of Northern Europe’s most important cities and the seat of kings and bishops. Together the two main attractions tell the story of Denmark’s early history.

Viking Ship Museum

With the sound of the waves and the smell of tar and fresh wood, the  Viking Ship Museum is located right by Roskilde Fjord and it is a great visit  for anyone with Viking blood in their veins. Here you find plenty of activities, history, atmosphere and a beautiful harbour with traditional, Nordic boats and full size Viking ships. Discover five original Viking ships and follow the  construction of a new Viking ship at the Boatyard. Enjoy New Nordic Viking Food with flavours from the Viking world. The food is a modern fusion between past and present, using both traditional Nordic commodities and imported spices, showing that the Viking voyages brought many new flavors to the North.

Roskilde Cathedral

The Cathedral is the official royal burial church going back to the Viking King Harald Bluetooth and the tradition continues to the current Queen Margrethe II’s future tomb. 40 elaborate tombs and chapels reflect the changing European architectural history through 800 years making it a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
