In the autumn of 2007 the publishing house Sohn in collaboration with the Viking Ship Museum issue a book about the adventurous voyage from Roskilde to Dublin.

According to plan the Sea Stallion disembarks in Dublin on Tuesday August 14 2007. A few months later book stores selling about 300 pages worth of historic endeavour.

The book will be created in close cooperation between Publishing House Sohn and the Viking Ship Museum.

“At the moment I heard about the project, I knew that here was an amazing story to tell. About the hardship throughout the voyage to Dublin in 2007, but also about the evidence left behind by the Vikings a 1,000 years ago at Skuldelev, in Orkney, and in Ireland,” publisher Ole Sohn says.

Many readers predicted

“We publish the book in Danish as well as English. I predict a colossal interest on both sides of the North Sea to read about this fantastic crossing, which no one has accomplished since Viking-times. That is why the book will be retailed in Denmark and in Britain both,” Ole Sohn explains.

The book will consist of two parts; one being a description of the voyage, the other containing retrospects on the history and pre-history concerning the Sea Stallion.

“The ambition of this book is to bring the readers very close to the ship, the crew and life aboard. And to give the reader an outline of the history of the original ship – Skuldelev 2 – and the things we know today about the life of the Vikings and their exploits along the route of the Sea Stallion from Roskilde to Dublin.”

Beautiful to behold

The book about the Sea Stallion should not just be an exiting read but also a joy to look at, Ole Sohn states.

“The Sea Stallion looks striking, and the project is impressive in every way – and the book has to match that. The book will be packed with stunning photos, beautiful drawings, and graphics serving to honour the project – a real coffee table book.”

Launched at book fair

The price of the book is 299 kroner, and it is available for pre-order through the home page of Publishing House Sohn. The actual presentation of the book will take place in connection with the book fair in Forum, Copenhagen in November 2007.
