Torquay harbour.

9.00 Breakfast

9.45 Skipper’s briefing:

The weather forecast, which was the reason we came into harbour yesterday, was right. The wind is gale force south-westerly, 15 metres/sec. and it’s pouring with rain.
We will stay in Torquay today and hope to be able to sail on tomorrow at 9.30.

A few facts about yesterday:
Cable One measured waves of 3 metres, 5 metres for the highest.
Midships, who are keeping track of how much water they bale out, baled out 8–9 tons of water from when we left Ireland’s coast at Tuskar Rock to Lands End, in all 24 hours sailing. This is from spray that came in in the heavy sea.

We clapped in respect for the midship crew who pumped the water out and for the foreship crew that received it.

In the next few days, we will check whether the ship has any leaks due to the heavy sea. The consumption of drinking water was 325 litres in the 2½ days we sailed. That’s 2.1 litres per man per day. The people responsible for water will fill up with water today.
The rudder tackle, which was our big worry during the sailing yesterday, was strong enough. It will be checked today, and either replaced or tightened.

Aftship has anchor watch today.

18.00 Evening meal by the ship.
