1991: The 6th International Symposium on Boat and Ship Archaeology: Crossroads in Ancient Shipbuilding
Here follows an abstract of the introduction published in the proceedings of the seminar:
The Sixth International Symposium on Boat and Ship Archaeology (ISBSA 6) was held in Roskilde, Denmark, from September 2nd-5th 1991. The meeting was organized by the Institute of Maritime Archaeology of the National Museum of Denmark in collaboration with the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde.
A total of 51 papers were accepted for the programme and this meant that the sessions had to be doubled for most of the meetings. Trials on the Roskilde Fjord with replicas of Viking ships and a 14th-century cog as well as traditional fishing boats and a 3-masted schooner were also included in the schedule. The programme also included excursions to the Naval Museum in Copenhagen and the Danish Maritime Institute at Hjortekær.
The proceedings of the seminar were published in 1994 in the monograph ’Crossroads in Ancient Shipbuilding’, edited by Christer Westerdahl
