Thrane & Thrane is leading in their field of producing communication equipment used at sea. The Danish company has just provided equipment for the world biggest reconstruction of a Viking ship which is also Danish.

Nowadays the remains of the viking ship, Skuldelev 2, is lying a the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde as a preserved ship wreck but when the ship was build in 1042 is was top modern and prime ship building.

In a few months the reconstruction of Skuldelev 2 named The Sea stallion from Glendalough will put to sea and begin a seven weeks voyage sailing, back to were the story began; Dublin, Ireland.

A journey followed curiously by the whole world. But to be able to succeed The Sea Stallion needs modern communication equipment on board.

The Viking Ship Museum is therefore collaborating with the leading company in maritime communication equipment Thrane & Thrane.

To the whole world through satellite

"As museum director I am extremely excited about the arrangement with Thrane & Thrane. The equipment they provide makes it possible for the crew to communicate their experiences on board to the outside world twenty four hours a day," says Tinna Damgård-Sørensen.

"Remember – the project is not just the biggest maritime archaeological experiment ever, it is also innovative in scientific research and communication. We will be communicating the project while it’s happening…… while the ship is sailing. That type of communication is only possible through satellite. The information send home will then be placed on the internet for the whole world to read just seconds after they are received from The Sea Stallion lying somewhere in the North See or the Atlantic," says the museum director
Tinna Damgård-Sørensen.

An international event
