Wednesday, 17th July 2024, day 17 of Skjoldungens voyage.

After spending the night at Kerteminde kayak club, we packed the ship and launched Skjoldungen into Kerteminde’s swift currents. Due to our good seamanship, we quickly left the harbour, and as we set the sail, a storm swept across the fjord, drenching us. After about 10 minutes of torrential rain, we were soaked again but happy to be back at sea. Four hours later, we passed under the Great Belt Bridge in glorious weather, with some assistance from the oars. We contacted Lundeborg sailing club and were granted permission to stay overnight. The joy of anticipation is often the best, and after several abrupt changes in direction, we had to abandon our plans and head to Nyborg. Here, we are now spending the night before deciding which challenges we will face next.

Following the source material on Wulfstan and Ottar, we can report that under similar weather conditions, they would also have taken shelter in Nyborg.
