The Bække Monument

There are signs for Klebæk Mound, which is about 1.5km north of Bække village, where another of Ravnunge-Tue’s rune stone stands. The Bække Monument is 81 meters above sea level and so a significant landmark. It consists of an impressive 45m stone ship, which a 10m wide part of the Ancient Road once bisected. In 1858 it was discovered that runes were carved in the stone at the ship’s prow with the inscription: “Ravnunge-Tue raised this monument in memory of his mother Vibrog”. One of the two Bronze Age Klebæk Mounds makes up the stern. From Bække Church along Søndergade to the inn, turn left at Skolegade, which continues as Klebækvej; in all approx. 1.5km from the church.
